Megan wore an elegant silk taffeta gown with a thin halter strap and a champagne sash. The groom wore a custom-made suit.
Megan‘s bridesmaids wore blue, silk taffeta gowns with a green sash. She chose these two shades in particular because they reminded her of water and sagebrush, two familiar elements in Idaho.
Ru, the couple‘s Siberian husky, acted as ring bearer for the ceremony. He wore a wreath of green flowers around his neck.
Because the outdoor space needed little additional adornment, Megan and Casey kept the ceremony decor simple by hanging pomanders of green dahlias on every other row of chairs.
Another key element was the "sacred circle," a circle on the ground made of stones, wood, and greenery, where the couple exchanged vows. The circle functioned like an altar, expressing Megan and Casey‘s spirituality and their desire for a connection with nature.
Megan and Casey chose a spot next to the Big Wood River on the property owned by Casey’s parents in Hailey, Idaho, for their outdoor ceremony. The natural surroundings provided a stunning backdrop. For Casey and Megan, this site was an easy choice given the memories they’d shared there.
Designer Kathy Hanson created a moss board to hold the escort cards. Guests‘ names and table assignments were printed on seeded paper so that each guest could plant them after the wedding in the terra-cotta pots Casey and Megan gave as favors.
A picturesque outdoor reception was held in a wooded portion of Casey’s parents‘ property. Guests were treated to a meal under the branches of Aspen and cottonwood trees. The color palette of the day, brown, green, and white, was a perfect complement to the natural surroundings.
Megan and Casey kept the look of each reception table clean and fresh. Crisp white napkins wrapped in chocolate-brown ribbon were placed on clear glass plates. A small green flower tucked into each napkin brought nature-inspired flair to the table.
Each reception table was named after local flora, such as the lily table seen here.
At the center of each table was a vase filled with Megan‘s favorite flowers, white dahlias.
Alternating with the white dahlias, Megan also chose green spider mums to incorporate color and texture. River rocks, candles, and faux dragonflies gave added interest to the centerpieces.
Megan and Casey couldn‘t resist these gorgeous, blue glass lanterns when they spotted them at Anthropologie. Casey hung them himself before the wedding began.
After dark, the reception site was illuminated with cafe lights strung 20 feet in the air. The glow of the lights created a romantic, whimsical atmosphere in which guests could enjoy dinner and mingling.
Megan revealed that Casey was "very nervous" for the couple‘s first dance at the reception.
The couple wanted to stray away from the usual when it came to their wedding cakes. Megan knew she wanted a tres leches cake, a moist cake soaked in three types of milk that originated in Mexico and Latin America, and a carrot cake with raisins.
Casey’s groom‘s cake of choice was dark chocolate with chocolate ganache.
Nature-lovers Casey and Megan first met in the Idaho desert. Casey was working at an at-risk youth therapy program when rumors began flying that a new field supervisor, Megan, had arrived. From the instant they met, both Casey and Megan admit they felt something special developing between them. Megan took the first big step and asked Casey on a date.

It took Casey quite a while to come up with the perfect proposal, but eventually an idea came to him. He decided to take Megan on a hike after a day of driving around the San Francisco Bay area completing a weekend to-do list. The couple was so busy Casey had to insist that they squeeze in a hike before dinner. They climbed to a spot in the Santa Cruz Mountains and Casey proposed on a grassy hill with a stunning view. The couple planned to celebrate their love of nature by being married outdoors in Idaho where they met and fell in love.
